Minister of Energy: Our Challenge Will be to Secure Electricity Service to Large Sectors

The Minister of Energy and Oil, Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed, said his ministry’s main challenge will be that of providing electricity to large sectors of the country so as to encourage people’s voluntary return to their home areas.
The minister made the remark during his tour on Tuesday to a number of oil facilities in the capital, Khartoum, including the Gari Power Station and the Khartoum Refinery.
The Minister, accompanied by Undersecretary of the Ministry, Mohieddin Naeem, reviewed the progress of maintenance and rehabilitation at the Khartoum Oil Refinery. Present in the tour were equally department directors from the ministry and electricity companies. This was the first visit by the minister since he has taken up his current ministerial post.
The Minister inspected the facilities of the Sudanese Petroleum Pipelines Company and listened to a detailed debriefing about the damage incurred by the facilities and the progress of the rehabilitation.
The tour included an inspection of the Sudanese Petroleum Corporation’s control and distribution center, where he was debriefed on the efforts of sector workers to restore the center on schedule.
The Minister praised the expertise of Sudanese workers, emphasizing their ability to rehabilitate what was destroyed by the rebel militia.
For his part, the Director General of the Khartoum Refinery Company, Alaa Eldin Fath Elrahman, provided a briefing on the refinery’s performance, reviewing the three-year work plan and indicating that the refinery is 100% staffed by Sudanese personnel.
He also discussed the company’s efforts to operate the second, less damaged refinery, which consists of two parts, to help provide petroleum derivatives
