Berlin – ٍSudanhorizon
The Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, discussed on Friday, with the Director of the Department for Sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel at the German Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Jessa Brautigam, the critical humanitarian situation in El Fasher due to the siege imposed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, and the denial of access to humanitarian aid, as well as looting and burning of humanitarian assistance, in clear violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council resolutions.
The Governor called on Germany to explicitly condemn these violations, stressing that a just and lasting peace in Sudan can only be achieved through halting of foreign military and political assistance for the militias and adopting Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue as the only way to reach sustainable solutions.
The Sudan News Agency reported that the Governor of Darfur Region has expressed his deep appreciation to the German government for its continued humanitarian support to the Sudanese people, stressing the need to expand and increase the scope of this support to meet the requirements of the voluntary return of refugees and displaced persons to their towns and villages, and to support the government’s efforts to restore basic services and normal life. Minawi stressed that this meeting embodies the Sudanese government’s commitment to strengthening its relations with Germany, a key partner in the areas of relief, development, and peace. He pointed to the importance of the international community’s role in shouldering its responsibilities towards the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and working together to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
