Al-Burhan on SAF Centennial: We Will Not Betray Our Martyrs

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, today congratulated the Sudanese people on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Armed Forces and the 71st anniversary of their Sudanization.

In a speech to the nation on this occasion, he said:

“I congratulate the officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers of the Armed Forces on this historic day, a day of the Armed Forces that represents the glory and civilization of Sudan.”

He explained that this glory was built by Sudanese people, who are the same builders of this great civilization and the ones who established and have continually supported the Armed Forces.

Al-Burhan saluted the Sudanese people, the makers of civilizations and founders of these forces whose name has always been linked to the defense of Sudan. He noted that when the Armed Forces were founded in 1925, unlike other armies, they were not named after a king or any other figure, but rather “The Sudan Defence Force.” From there began the determination to build and preserve the history of this nation.

The Commander-in-Chief added that in 1954, the Armed Forces were led for the first time by a Sudanese commander. While the forces are now over 100 years old, before 1925 they fought as battalions and divisions alongside other armies. After the White Flag Revolution in 1924, and the revolution in neighboring Egypt, they were separated and formed under the name “Sudan Defence Force,” drawing their various names from Sudan’s civilization and history.

He added that when they were renamed the “Armed Forces,” the name and the symbol became what they carry today — fighting alongside the Sudanese people in the Battle of Dignity.

Gen. Al-Burhan saluted all Sudanese who have stood by the Armed Forces, praising the heroes stationed at the frontlines everywhere, particularly in El Fasher, Babanusa, and Kadugli, and in all army convoys defending the truth and protecting Sudan. He also saluted all supporters of the Armed Forces from various sectors of the Sudanese people, as well as those stationed in the field and any Sudanese who have supported the forces personally or financially.

He continued: “We are proud to belong to this institution, and the Sudanese people are proud of the deep-rootedness and legacy of their institution.”

Al-Burhan renewed his determination to continue the Battle of Dignity, defeat the rebellion, and reject any compromise or reconciliation regardless of the cost. He added:

“We will not betray the blood of our people, our sons, and our brothers who have fallen and sacrificed themselves in defense of Sudan.”
