Field and military sources have confirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allies in the Joint Force have repelled a violent attack by the Rapid Support Forces militia on Al Fashir from several directions on Monday.

SAF and allies, the sources reported, pushed back the attacking forces inflicting heavy losses in equipment and lives on them.

The Governor of Darfur region, Minni Arko Minawi, who oversees the joint force, confirmed in a post in his account on (X) platform that the militia had been repelled.

He added that, “somebody has to tell the Rapid Support Forces militia that their attempt to enter Al Fashir is nothing but a one-way ticket.”

Minawi congratulated the fighters in the city on their victory over the Janjaweed militia in Battle No. 227.

The Governor has accused the militia of starving children, women, and the elderly, amidst international silence and the reneging of their promises by those who were considered brothers in the trenches. He continued, “But our resolve will not waver, and the banners of victory will continue to fly until the soil of Al Fashir and all Sudanese cities are cleansed of the filth of these criminals.”

Platforms affiliated with the joint force showed video clips showing the destruction of military vehicles and the killing of a number of militia members. For its part, Al Fashir Resistance Coordination Committees said in a statement that “Al Fashir has triumphed once again despite the siege and hunger, and has once again written chapters of heroism and steadfastness.”

The coordination committees called on Sudanese at home and abroad to rise to the occasion of this momentous event and to shoulder their moral, humanitarian, and national responsibilities, at the very least. They called for the lifting of the siege and provision of assistance to public kitchens struggling with scarce resources.
