This is How International Community Contributed to Worsening the Crisis by Being Too Lenient To RSF

Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, has underlined that ‘’the international community’s tolerance of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militias is what made them contradict all international resolutions and appeals, treating them with indifference.”
Ambassador Hassan has referred in this context to the week-long humanitarian truce proposed by the UN Secretary-General, which the government immediately agreed to, while the rebel militia refused to abide by it.
In Geneva, the Permanent Representative met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on Friday and briefed him on the disastrous consequences of the Rapid Support Forces’ continued siege of Al Fashir, despite numerous resolutions and statements calling for the siege to be lifted, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2736. He explained that the militia is using starvation as a weapon in a desperate attempt to empty the city of its residents, in addition to targeting markets and public facilities with artillery and drones, which constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In this context, the Permanent Representative indicated that the issue of human rights is a top priority for the new civilian government headed by Prime Minister Kamil Idris.
The Permanent Representative also reviewed the atrocities committed by the rebel militias in the towns and villages of North and West Kordofan, noting in this context the massacres they perpetrated in the villages of Dar Hamid in North Kordofan, particularly the mass killings they carried out in the eastern and western villages of Shaq al-Num, Abu Qaida, and Umm Qirfa around the city of Bara. He stressed the need for the international community, particularly the United Nations and its agencies, to move from statements and appeals to taking decisive and deterrent measures to halt the Rapid Support Forces’ flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the crimes and human rights violations they are committing.
For his part, the High Commissioner referred to the statements issued by his Office regarding the situation in Al Fashir, and most recently his statement on the crimes and violations committed in North and West Kordofan.
In this context, he noted the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive accountability measures to achieve justice and prevent impunity. He also noted the priority his Office continues to attach to monitoring developments in Sudan. In this context, he referred to the visit the appointed expert will make to Sudan at the end of this month and his meetings with officials
