Sovereign Committee Conducts Consultations to Form Transitional Parliament

Port Sudan -Sudanhorizon
A political committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has initiated meetings with political parties, civil society organizations, and the Popular Resistance to discuss the appointment of a transitional parliament.
Informed sources told Sudanhorizon that the political committee, composed of Sovereign Council members Lieutenant General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, and General Abdullah Yahya, has participated in several consultative meetings to form the transitional parliament with the participation of the country’s political and societal components.
The Constitutional Document signed in August 2019 stipulated the appointment of a transitional parliament within 90 days of the document’s signing. However, the then-ruling Forces of Freedom and Change (the civilian component) failed to accomplish this task until its partnership with the military component was dissolved in October 2021.
Throughout the transitional period, now in its seventh year, the legislative function remained in the hands of the Sovereign Council and the Council of Ministers, based on the interim text agreed upon at the time of signing the Constitutional Document.
