AUC Chairperson Welcomes Appointment of Civilian Prime Minister in Sudan

A press release issued by the Office of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssef, on Tuesday stated that the Chairperson of the Commission has taken note of the appointment of Dr. Kamil El-Tayeb Idris as Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan.
The AUC Chairperson has meanwhile commended this development as a step towards an all-inclusive governance and expressed his hope that it will contribute effectively to the efforts being exerted to restore constitutional order and democratic rule in Sudan.
AUC Chairman, Youssef, has urged all relevant Sudanese parties to redouble their efforts towards achieving peaceful, civilian-led, and inclusive transition that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people, stressing that the Commission stands ready to support Sudan in this regard, in cooperation with regional and international partners.
The Chairperson of the Commission reiterated the African Union’s “firm commitment to the unity, sovereignty and stability of Sudan, and to the pursuit of a lasting political solution that ensures peace, development and democratic governance for all.”
