Sudanese Mineral Company Director: No Copper Exports for Last 2 years

The General Director of the Sudanese Company for Mineral Resources, Mohamed Taher Omar, has confirmed that his company has not exported any copper ore during the past two years.
Omar told “Sudanhorizon” “That the company was focussing more on to gold export for the speed of return in light of the stifling economic conditions Sudan has experienced.”
Omer revealed that the number of mining companies has reached 152 companies, including four foreign producing companies, namely from Qatar, Morocco, Jordan and Russia.
He pointed out that the Sudanese company was able to resume activities during the two years of war and d doubled with the aim of increasing gold production and revenues.
“We were able to increase gold production during the second year of the war to the tune of 64 tons.”
“We have reduced the state’s share in the Gold waste from 28% to 20% to encourage companies to produce this year,” he said.
Taher explained that the company has lost many of its equipment and that it is currently operating at 30% of its workforce, noting that they are ready to return to Khartoum, any moment they are ordered to return to base.
