Higher Committee: Currency Replacement Begins on December 10th

The Higher Committee for Currency Change and Replacement, headed by the member of the Sovereign Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Gen Engineer Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, has declared that the 10th of December 2024, shall be the date for launching the process of replacing the currency in a number of Sudanese states, and that this process continues for two weeks, as of the 10th of the month.

The Minister of Culture and Information, the government official spokesman, Khaled Al-Aissir, has meanwhile explained in a press statement that the committee was briefed on the completion of all technical and security arrangements and preparations for the launch of the process of replacing the currency on the set date. He said the process continue up to the 23rd of the month the Red Sea, Kassala, Gadarif, River Nile, the North states as well as in the Blue Nile region.

Al-Aaisir pointed out that this important decision is in the interest of Sudan, protecting the national economy, and combating the criminal operations that took place during the last period.

He explained that the replacement will be made through bank deposits in bank accounts, urging people to open bank accounts in nearby branches, noting that banks will facilitate the procedures and requirements for opening accounts and receiving customer deposits with ease.

The Minister has meanwhile called on the people to use the available electronic payment methods, such as applications and others, explaining that the daily cash withdrawal ceiling will be 200 thousand pounds per customer per day, with the possibility of using electronic payment methods openly without restrictions.

The Minister stated that financial transfers from one account to another, or electronic transactions through electronic payment operations, will take place in accordance with stipulations put forward by the central bank, the Bank of Sudan, in its publications, and that the transfer through bank outlets between accounts will be limitless, and that people can transfer any amount from one account to another account.

The spokesperson said he expects some decisions will be issued by the Bank of Sudan, binding all public and private institutions to accept the electronic payment process.

The Minister called on citizens to interact with the currency replacement process as an important and necessary national process to protect the country’s national security
