Sudanese Artistic Projects to Counter Hate Speech and Promote Peaceful Coexistence
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Sudanese dramatists have proposed a vision to expand the scope of “Sudanese-Sudanese” dialogue, extending it to various states and localities across the country by utilizing theater, radio, television, and social media.
The vision includes organizing a comprehensive conference for dramatists to discuss issues related to the dialogue, with the aim of producing recommendations and practical projects that help address the consequences of the war, counter hate speech, foster peaceful coexistence, and encourage the acceptance of others.
This emerged during a meeting held at the headquarters of the “Sudanese-Sudanese” Dialogue Preparation Committee in the Al-Taif neighborhood of Khartoum. The meeting, attended by members of the Dialogue Preparation Committee and a group of dramatists, explored the role of drama in conveying the message of dialogue to all segments of Sudanese society—ensuring it is not confined solely to the capital or major urban centers.
Mohamed Mahdi Al-Fadani, a representative for the dramatists, described the gathering as an inclusive and productive session. He affirmed the group’s commitment to ensuring that the dialogue reaches all social groups and diverse communities throughout Sudan.
He explained that their plan aims to reach various states and localities—including areas affected by the war—once hostilities cease. He emphasized that dramatists possess a wide array of tools for communication, including traditional theater, street theater, interactive theater, and drama for radio and television.
Al-Fadani specifically highlighted the importance of street theater. Due to his ability to reach citizens directly—in marketplaces, transit hubs, and cultural centers—and engage with them in their everyday environments, in addition to leveraging radio and television to broaden the scope of the dialogue.
