The Finance Minister called on the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to prepare its plan for 2027 to accommodate the aforementioned projects, with a focus on rehabilitating export routes, particularly the Port Sudan-Kassala-Adre route and the coastal road. He stressed the importance of preparing these routes and providing them with the necessary services to make them attractive to exporters.
Dr. Gibril Ibrahim also stressed the need to prepare technical studies, in cooperation with specialized consulting firms, for the Port Sudan-Kassala-Adre and Wadi Halfa-Argeen routes, divide them into sections, and put them forward for implementation through investment companies. He affirmed that railways would open new horizons and provide excellent opportunities to support the country’s economic resources.
For his part, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport explained that the meeting discussed reconstruction efforts and the construction of new roads and railway lines, foremost among them the Port Sudan-Adre export route, which he described as one of the most important corridors for the coming period. He also highlighted the Kassala-Gedaref-Madani-Kosti route and the planned highway between Port Sudan and Adre, which is to be built to international standards.
He added that the Wadi Halfa-Al-Jabalain south of Kosti route represents the backbone of development and transportation in Sudan, alongside the existing railway line and the Nyala-Adre railway line, which forms part of the African corridor.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the road and railway networks connecting different parts of Sudan and their central role in facilitating foreign trade and the transit of goods from neighboring countries through export ports, in addition to supporting imports for the domestic market.
