The Bank of Khartoum has announced the launch of a financing facility for solar energy and agricultural production inputs in River Nile State.

The launch took place on Saturday at an event in Ed-Damer, the capital of River Nile State, attended by the state’s Governor, Mohammed Al-Badawi Abdel-Majid Abu Quroun, members of his government, and Professor Ibrahim Al-Dukhairi, Secretary-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.

The event was held under the direct supervision of the Central Bank of Sudan, represented by its Atbara branch manager, Mohammed Al-Obaid, alongside Central Bank officials and members of its Financial Inclusion Department.

The launch was attended by representatives of the Bank of Khartoum’s executive management, led by the group’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, as well as a number of banking sector leaders in the state, representatives of participating banks, and the Director-General and staff of Taysir Financing Guarantee Agency.

Total contributions to the facility amounted to SDG 35.625 billion. The Bank of Khartoum contributed SDG 30 billion, the Central Bank of Sudan SDG 500 million, the Agricultural Bank SDG 2 billion, the Nile Bank SDG 1 billion, Al-Mazari Bank SDG 1 billion, Al-Balad Bank SDG 500 million, the Savings Bank SDG 500 million, and the Animal Resources Bank SDG 125 million.

The facility will target three main areas: financing solar energy for the agricultural sector, financing agricultural production inputs, and financing solar energy systems for industries linked to agriculture.

Eligible beneficiaries include microfinance recipients, small and medium-sized enterprises, and companies.

The Bank of Khartoum said the initiative reaffirmed its active contribution to developing the agricultural sector and supporting micro, small, and medium-sized financing projects across the country. It added that the facility aimed to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen financial inclusion in support of the national economy.

The Bank of Khartoum Group praised the important role of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and its contribution to development through non-financial services, including training, capacity-building, and professional development for personnel responsible for implementing these projects.

The group said the initiative formed part of its strategic partnership with the organization to promote sustainable development and expand growth opportunities for agricultural projects, value-added supply chains, and agro-processing industries.

The initiative also represents an important step toward strengthening the role of agricultural research, advancing the development of the agricultural sector, and encouraging green financing by supporting solar energy projects serving agriculture in River Nile State.
