The Sudanese Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Darf, participated in the International Justice Summit, which concluded sessions on Friday in Istanbul, Turkey. The summit, held over two days, brought together justice ministers from various countries—most notably Syria, Georgia, Bangladesh, and Mozambique—alongside academics, parliamentarians, politicians, representatives from supreme courts and public prosecution offices, international organizations, legal and judicial experts, and diplomats.

Hosted by the Turkish Ministry of Justice, the summit was held under the theme “The Future of Justice: A Shared Responsibility for Humanity.” It was honored by the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who addressed the closing session. He emphasized that Turkey remains committed to upholding the concept of justice and defending the oppressed, serving as a safe haven for the downtrodden. He further affirmed Turkey’s resolve to foster international dialogue on the future of judicial systems, enhance legal cooperation among nations, and address the challenges facing justice amidst rapid international and technological transformations.

The opening session featured welcoming remarks by Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, who underscored the importance of uniting international efforts to formulate a shared vision that strengthens the principles of justice and the rule of law. Professor Saadet Yüksel, a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, emphasized the fundamental role of national judiciaries and local courts in protecting human rights, noting that international courts play a complementary and supportive role.

The summit program featured eight key sessions addressing pivotal issues, including the application of international humanitarian law and accountability principles—with a focus on the situation in Gaza—as well as international arbitration, the future of the legal profession, international justice and human rights, legal liability for social media content, justice in the digital age, combating cybercrime, artificial intelligence, and migration, responsibility-sharing, and the preservation of human dignity.

The participation of Sudanese Justice Minister Dr. Abdullah Darf in the summit reflects Sudan’s active presence in international legal forums. It provides an opportunity to exchange expertise on developing justice institutions and enhancing international judicial cooperation, while also engaging in discussions regarding international humanitarian law, human rights, and the fight against transnational crime.

The summit’s proceedings are expected to foster dialogue among participating legal and judicial institutions and explore avenues for joint cooperation that support the rule of law and enhance access to justice at both national and international levels.
