Energy Minister: Next Phase Requires Greater Efforts to Restore Oil Production

Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed affirmed that the petroleum sector is a vital and strategic sector for the national economy, stressing that the next phase requires doubling efforts to restore production, develop petroleum activities, strengthen partnerships with local and international companies, and benefit from accumulated national expertise and capabilities.
During an inspection visit to the headquarters of Sudapet in Khartoum today, Tuesday, the minister reviewed the company’s operations following its return to its main headquarters, as well as its plans and programs for the coming period.
He said the ministry is working to prepare the sector for the next phase, particularly amid ongoing negotiations and communication with a number of international companies that have expressed interest in investing in Sudan’s petroleum sector.
He noted that the success of these efforts requires accurate and organized technical and investment information and data, which would strengthen Sudan’s ability to negotiate and attract investment.
The minister received a briefing from Sudapet General Manager Engineer Atef Abdullah on the company’s activities, current situation, and operational plans, as well as those of its subsidiaries, including Asawer, BGC, NUS Drilling, and Centroid Technical and Consulting Services, and the work and services these companies provide to the oil sector.
The minister was also briefed on Sudapet’s efforts to resume its activities and restart operations despite the challenges imposed by the circumstances of the war, as well as its participation in a number of activities and projects inside and outside Sudan, in addition to its technical, consulting, and partnership activities in several countries. He noted that these efforts reflect the diversity of the company’s fields of work and its accumulated experience.
The minister also reviewed the company’s efforts to rehabilitate its headquarters in Khartoum through its own resources, with the contribution of its engineering and technical staff. He stressed that preserving national institutions and their human resources represents a priority during the current phase.
He underscored the importance of retaining employees in the petroleum sector and benefiting from their expertise and capabilities, stressing that the exceptional circumstances facing the country require addressing employees’ circumstances from both a social and humanitarian perspective, in addition to the professional aspect. He warned against losing the skilled personnel and expertise that represent an important national asset for the reconstruction and recovery phase.
The minister affirmed the ministry’s commitment to addressing employees’ conditions and fulfilling outstanding rights and obligations within available resources, while providing the necessary support and assistance to employees during this phase.
The Energy Minister praised the efforts of Sudapet’s management and employees and their ability to maintain business continuity and overcome challenges. He reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the company and petroleum-sector institutions to enable them to play their role in restoring oil activity and strengthening its contribution to the country’s economic development.
