Energy Minister Discusses Reconstruction with Chinese Company

The Sudanese Minister of Energy and Oil, Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, met on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, with the regional representative and General Manager of the Chinese company “Siwan” to discuss avenues for joint cooperation in the electricity sector and reconstruction projects.
The meeting addressed the current status of manufacturing transformers for the Merowe Dam. Both parties agreed to commence final testing of the generation transformer by the end of September and to submit a new schedule to expedite the delivery of the Northern State transformer and its accessories, as well as reactor system equipment and devices.
The company also plans to submit technical proposals for the provision of four mobile emergency substations with voltage ratings of 500, 220, 110, and 33 kilovolts, in addition to expanding solar and wind energy projects.
A company delegation is scheduled to visit Sudan next month to conduct on-site inspections of proposed locations, including the site of the wind power plant in the city of Dongola.
For its part, the company affirmed its readiness to dispatch specialized technical delegations to Sudan to assess war-related damage to power generation and transmission stations and to actively contribute to rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the company invited the Energy Minister and his accompanying delegation to visit the People’s Republic of China to continue discussions and advance the framework for joint cooperation in the fields of electricity, energy, and reconstruction.
