Dialogue Preparation Committee Says Meeting with Quintet Mechanism “ Fruitful”

On Wednesday, the Quintet Mechanism held a meeting with the Sudanese Dialogue Preparation Committee to discuss the committee’s vision for achieving a political settlement in the Sudan.
Osman Mirghani, the committee’s official spokesperson, described the meeting with the Quintet Mechanism as “highly fruitful,” noting that it represents a new starting point toward resolving Sudan’s political crisis.
In a press statement following the meeting, he explained that the committee had provided a detailed account of its work and its future vision for reaching a political settlement.
The discussion addressed inquiries raised by the Quintet Mechanism, foremost among them being the guarantees offered to dialogue participants. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of broadening the consultation base to include wider segments of society—such as women, youth, displaced persons, refugees, and those affected by the instability.
Mirghani noted that the Quintet Mechanism holds a positive stance and possesses sufficient information about the situation, anticipating that it would play a key supportive role for the committee in engaging with the regional and international communities.
The spokesperson expressed the view that the meeting’s outcomes pave the way for accelerating efforts to resolve the Sudanese political crisis as soon as possible.
For his part, Mohamed Al-Munir—head of the committee responsible for liaison with regional and international organizations—stated that the Quintet Mechanism raised several questions regarding guarantees. He added that the committee clarified that the guarantees provided by the state represent a starting point rather than the final word.
He continued, “We emphasized that if political forces based outside Sudan express reservations or request additional guarantees during our consultations with them, we will not hesitate to return to the state and request further assurances.” Al-Munir anticipated a positive response from the State, similar to the first instance.
He noted that the meeting also addressed guarantees for implementing the dialogue’s outcomes, with the mechanism expressing a desire to understand the implementation procedures.
