A Turkish company expresses its desire to invest in the gas field in Sudan

The Turkish company “Argaz” has expressed intest to invest in the gas field in Sudan, through implementing an integrated project to create specialized infrastructure for importing, storing and distributing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
This came during a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, Ali Abdul Rahman Muhammad, with the Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors, Muhammad Tabakh.
The Undersecretary welcomed the investment offer submitted by the company, stressing the Ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary support and facilities for the project, in line with its directions aimed at developing and expanding the infrastructure for importing, storing, and distributing gas.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy explained that gas represents a strategic resource that is increasingly needed in Sudan, as it is used in many industrial and service uses and activities, pointing out the importance of working to secure stable supplies of it, and expanding import, storage and distribution capabilities, in a way that contributes to providing it at reasonable prices.
The Undersecretary directed the competent authorities to facilitate the procedures for the project, which includes establishing a specialized port for importing gas and storage warehouses in the city of Port Sudan, in addition to developing and increasing the mechanisms of gas distribution networks, stressing that the project represents an important addition to the infrastructure of the energy sector, and can contribute to enhancing the security of supplies and opening the way for the expansion of the use of gas.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish “Argaz” Company, Muhammad Tabakh, confirmed the company’s serious desire to implement the project in Sudan, noting that the company recently achieved an important investment step in Africa by signing a protocol and memorandum of understanding with the Sudanese Seaports Authority to build and establish the first specialized sea pier to receive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and trade it in the port of Suakin, according to the build, operate and own (BOT) system.

Tabakh pointed out that the proposed project has a storage capacity of about 28 thousand cubic meters, and aims to enhance Sudan’s capabilities in receiving, storing and trading gas, and to secure the needs of the local market on a regular basis and at appropriate prices, in a way that supports the economic, industrial and service sectors.
The two sides stressed the importance of completing technical and economic studies for the project, which paves the way for the transition to implementation steps and enhances investment cooperation opportunities between Sudan and Turkey in the field of energy.
