New York – Sudanhorizon
Acting Foreign Minister Hussain Awad addressed the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In his speech, the minister pointed to the ongoing aggression being waged by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against Sudan, supported by regional actors, and highlighted the continued targeting of innocent civilians and infrastructure in violation of international humanitarian law. The minister emphasized that correctly characterizing this war as a genocide is the right approach to resolving the crisis.
The minister also praised the recent statement issued by the ministerial meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states, which referred to the militia as “rebel forces.”
On another note, the minister reaffirmed Sudan’s support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s right to fully realize their rights and end the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories in accordance with the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
He called for mobilizing international efforts to pressure Israel to comply with international will, implement United Nations resolutions, and adhere to the two-state solution. The minister also expressed Sudan’s solidarity with brotherly Lebanon against Israeli aggression, as well as support for the Rohingya and the necessity of their return to their homeland.
The Foreign Minister reiterated Sudan’s support for the OIC in its significant roles in addressing the many challenges facing the Islamic nation.
