Government Calls on World Food Programme to Support Supply and Production Chains

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muhyiddin Salem, held a meeting on Saturday with World Food Programme (WFP) Acting Executive Director Carl Skau.

The minister conveyed the gratitude and appreciation of the Government and people of Sudan to the World Food Programme for the support and assistance it has continued to provide to people in need in Sudan as a result of the war and displacement.

He affirmed the continuation of coordination and cooperation with the WFP office in Sudan to facilitate its operations and overcome any obstacles. He also urged the programme to move toward supporting reconstruction, capacity building, livelihood projects, and self-reliance, particularly following the return of citizens to their areas.

The minister called for support to small-scale farmers, as well as support for supply and production chains and value addition for agricultural products. He also called for capacity-building support for civil society organizations and youth, in addition to support for school meals.

For his part, Skau expressed his pleasure at visiting Khartoum and witnessing the major transformation taking place in the capital as citizens and government institutions return.

He affirmed the World Food Programme’s desire to continue cooperation and coordination with the Sudanese government in delivering humanitarian assistance, contributing to reconstruction, and supporting recovery and self-reliance projects, including the provision of school meals.
