Foreign Minister Says AU Visit to Khartoum After Liberation Is Historic

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Muhyiddin Salem welcomed the visit of the delegation of ambassadors who are members of the African Union Peace and Security Council to Khartoum, describing it as particularly significant because it comes following what he described as the liberation of Khartoum, the defeat of the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia, and the restoration of security and stability to the capital.

Speaking to the press on Sunday after the meeting between the Prime Minister, cabinet members, and representatives of political and civil forces and the African delegation at the Council of Ministers headquarters in Khartoum, the foreign minister said the visit was “historic in every sense,” allowing the delegation to witness firsthand the scale of destruction caused by the militia.

He added that the meeting included symbolic participation by several political forces and parties, noting that a short documentary film documenting the militia’s crimes and violations was also screened.

For his part, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and Chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council for August, Ambassador Mohamed Khaled, affirmed the African Union’s solidarity with Sudan and the Sudanese people.

He said the African Union would accompany Sudan in its efforts to restore security and stability and safeguard the country’s unity and territorial integrity.

Khaled also reaffirmed the Peace and Security Council’s commitment to the principles of the African Union, based on respect for the sovereignty and unity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, rejecting any form of interference in Sudan’s affairs.
