Lightning Strike Set Fire at Wad Madani Hospital

A fire broke out at Wad Madani Hospital on Wednesday afternoon after it was struck by lightning, according to the Ministry of Health in El-Gezirah State.
In a statement, the ministry said trhe area witnessed heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon. A lightening hit the hospital buildings attached to the intensive care unit at Madani Teaching Hospital, resulting in a small fire that was completely extinguished by the Civil Defense forces who rushed to the scene.
The ministry confirmed that no injuries or deaths were reported among patients or staff. A number of patients were transferred to other wards within the hospital as a precautionary measure to ensure they continue receiving medical treatments.
The Ministry of Health in El-Gezirah State thanked the Civil Defense forces for their swift response and for completely controlling the fire, contributed to securing the site and protecting patients and facilities.

Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, the Governor of El-Gezirah State, accompanied by the Acting Minister of Health, Osama Abdel Rahman Ahmed Al-Faki, inspected the site of the incident. They were briefed about the safety of the patients and the measures taken by the hospital administration and the competent authorities to protect the patients. The authorities issued instant directives for the assessment of any possible damages and for continuation of treatment work, safety of the facilities and the continuation of providing medical services.
