Salva Kiir Invites Al-Burhan to Visit Juba for Talks on Border Issues and Joint Trade Zones

Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received a message from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit in Khartoum on Wednesday. The message was delivered by the South Sudanese President’s Security Adviser, Tut Gatluak.

Speaking to reporters, Gatluak said he conveyed an oral message from President Kiir focusing on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as issues related to promoting peace and stability in both Sudan and South Sudan.

He added that the meeting also addressed the transportation and transit of South Sudan’s oil through Sudan, efforts to expand bilateral cooperation, and ongoing initiatives to support peace and stability.

Gatluak said he also delivered an official invitation from President Salva Kiir to General Al-Burhan to visit Juba for talks on the future of relations between the two countries. The proposed visit would aim to reach understandings on a number of issues, including enhancing stability in border areas and establishing joint commercial zones to benefit the peoples of both nations.

The meeting was attended by Director-General of the General Intelligence Service General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Muawia Othman Khalid, Director of Military Intelligence Lieutenant General Mohamed Ali Ahmed Sabir, and Sudan’s Ambassador to South Sudan Lieutenant General Essam Mohamed Hassan Karrar.
