El Obeid Paints a Lively Olympic Picture

The Sudanese Olympic Committee has organized its annual celebration of “Olympic Day” in El Obeid, at the Olympic Africa Center on Saturday at the Youth Casino, amidst a large official and public attendance and wide participation from sports and activity federations.

The event embodied the values of the Olympic movement and reflected the vitality of sports activity in North Kordofan State, emphasizing the continuation of sports and community programs and their role in spreading Olympic culture and enhancing community participation.

The celebration was attended by the Acting Governor of North Kordofan and Secretary-General of the Government, Dr. Al-Amin Shaib Muhammad Harika; the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Youth, Sports, Culture, and Media, Jamaa Al-Mahdi Jamaa; the Commander of the 5th Infantry Division (Camel Corps), Major General Siddiq Al-Jili; the Commander of the 19th Camel Corps Brigade; the Commander of the Armored Corps; a representative of the Executive Director of Sheikan Locality; the Deputy Head of the Popular Resistance, Major General (Retired) Al-Hadi Ahmed Al-Dahish; Yusuf Abdullah Muhammad (Jambaka), Director of the Olympic Africa Project at the Sudanese Olympic Committee; as well as leaders of the regular forces, heads of sports and activity federations, media representatives, and a large crowd.

The Sudanese Olympic Committee participated in the celebration, which included the volleyball, basketball, handball, taekwondo, karate, weightlifting, gymnastics, athletics, and youth federations. They presented impressive sporting demonstrations that captivated the audience, and other competitions and athletics races of 3 kilometers for young men and 2 kilometers for young women. The top three finishers in each competition were then crowned.

Olympic Day is one of the most prominent annual events that National Olympic Committees around the world organize in response to the International Olympic Committee’s program aimed at promoting Olympic values, fostering a culture of sport, and instilling the principles of friendship, respect, and excellence. The Sudanese Olympic Committee continues to organize this event annually, in line with the International Olympic Committee’s directives to broaden participation in sports and enhance the role of sport in serving the community. The program also included a number of sports and recreational activities that were met with great enthusiasm from the attendees and contributed to realizing the goals of Olympic Day, which aim to encourage all segments of society to engage in physical activity and promote a culture of sports. The Sudanese Olympic Committee affirmed its commitment to continuing its programs aimed at spreading the Olympic Movement and activating the role of Olympic Africa centers in supporting sports and community activities, thereby contributing to raising awareness of the importance of sports and their role in building a healthier and more cohesive society.

The Olympic Day events concluded with the honoring of the winners in the various competitions and sports activities, amidst a festive atmosphere that reflected the success of the occasion and the achievement of its objectives.

For his part, the Director of the Olympic Africa Project and representative of the Sudanese Olympic Committee, Youssef Abdullah Mohammed (Jambaka), confirmed that the selection of El Obeid to host the Olympic Day celebrations was in recognition of its role in serving sports and its contributions to the success of Olympic programs and the dissemination of the values of the Olympic Movement among various segments of society.

He reviewed the history of the global Olympic Movement since its founding in 1894, explaining that it is based on the values of excellence, friendship, and peace. He noted that Olympic Day embodies the meaning of unity through the participation of various sports federations in its events.

He also reviewed the community programs implemented by the Olympic Committee, including the project to address psychological trauma in children, which served more than 700 children, and the “Hope” project, which targeted 500 children with the aim of integrating them into society through sports activities.

He emphasized that celebrating in El Obeid represents appreciation for its contributions to serving sports and the Olympic cause.

In a related context, Professor Jamaa Al-Mahdi Jamaa welcomed the guests, praising the Sudanese Olympic Committee’s choice of El Obeid to host the event. He affirmed that the large attendance and broad participation of sports federations reflect the vitality of the sports movement in the state. He commended the role of the media in highlighting sports activities, noting that the Youth Casino’s hosting of the Olympic Day events confirms the continuation of sports and youth programs and events. He congratulated all participants and winners in the various competitions.

The Acting Governor of North Kordofan and Secretary-General of the State Government, Dr. Al-Amin Shaib Muhammad Harika, affirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting sports and youth activities. He noted that the broad participation of various sports federations and age groups reflects the significant role of sports in human development and instilling values of cooperation, belonging, and the principle of “a sound mind in a sound body.”

He added that the state government will continue to support the sports movement and provide a conducive environment for the work of federations and clubs, thereby contributing to the development of sports and expanding participation in various activities.
