Geological Research Authority and Northern State Agree to Accelerate Geological Work

The General Authority for Geological Research and the government of the Northern State, represented by the Ministry of Urban Planning and Infrastructure, agreed to move forward in strengthening their strategic partnership by expediting the implementation of the geological survey project in the state and establishing a central reference laboratory to support the mining sector.

During his meeting today (Tuesday) with the Minister of Urban Planning and Infrastructure of the Northern State, Engineer Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, the Director General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Toumi, confirmed that the geological survey project in the state will commence in the coming period, following the completion of the technical arrangements and administrative tasks related to the project.
He explained that the project aims to identify and evaluate the mineral resources in the state in preparation for offering them as investment projects, thus contributing to maximizing the benefit from mineral resources and strengthening the national economy.

The Director General, according to a press release issued by the General Authority for Geological Research, revealed a plan to establish a central reference laboratory in the Northern State within the 2027 budget. This will be accompanied by a specialized training course on the laws regulating the mining sector for employees in the states, in coordination with the Ministry of Minerals, aimed at enhancing institutional capacity and improving performance efficiency.

For his part, the Director of the General Administration for Financial and Human Resources, Essam El-Din Babiker, affirmed the Authority’s continued commitment to implementing its program to upgrade and develop its offices in the states.
He indicated that 2027 will witness the completion of these development processes, contributing to supporting surveying and exploration activities and improving the efficiency of technical and administrative services.

In this context, the Minister of Urban Planning and Infrastructure in the Northern State, Engineer Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, emphasized that the mining sector represents one of the fundamental pillars of the state’s economy.
He called upon the Authority to support technical studies of the mining concession granted to the state and to provide the necessary geological data, given that the state has received offers from companies to enter into promising investment partnerships.
