Sudanese Discusses its Concerns with the Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

The Sudanese delegation participating in the 87th General Assembly of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, held in the Gambian capital, Banjul, met with Mr. Idrissa Sow, Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights of the African Union.
During the meeting, the Sudanese delegation called on the Chairperson to address the negative external role supporting the war against Sudan, which has led to a deterioration of human rights, and stressed the importance of finding a fully African and acceptable solutions to African issues.
The delegation, which included Attorney General Yasser Sayed Ahmed Al-Hassan, Rapporteur of the National Human Rights Mechanism, and Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, Sudan’s representative to the African Union, provided a comprehensive explanation of the institutional and legal frameworks upon which the Sudanese government operates in the field of protecting and promoting human rights. This framework is implemented through the National Human Rights Mechanism, headed by the Minister of Justice, and encompasses all departments and agencies concerned with human rights, the protection of the rights of women, children, and persons with disabilities, as well as the judicial and law enforcement bodies.
The delegation also reviewed the Independent National Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and the support the state provides to the Mechanism, despite the prevailing circumstances, to enhance its effectiveness in addressing human rights issues, particularly in light of the widespread violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
The delegation highlighted Sudan’s significant contributions to joint African action through the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other bodies. It reiterated its reservations regarding any joint investigation between the African Union mission and any mission from outside the continent, and called for strengthening African ties, a press release issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Justice, said..
For his part, Mr. Idrissa Sow, Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, welcomed the Sudanese delegation’s proposals and agreed with all their views and observations. He affirmed that these would receive the Commission’s utmost attention. He also emphasized his commitment to sound performance, solidarity, and consultative solutions, stressing that the Commission would dedicate its efforts to achieving these goals and stand with Sudan and its people in their pursuit of stability.
