The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Agouri, met on Thursday with Sudan’s Consul General in Benghazi, Abdelrahman Rahmatallah, to discuss the situation of Sudanese citizens and displaced persons residing in cities across eastern Libya amid the exceptional circumstances facing Sudan.
According to the Libyan News Agency, the meeting reviewed the humanitarian situation in Sudan and its impact on civilians, as well as the conditions of displaced Sudanese living in Libya. The discussions also focused on efforts to provide them with the necessary facilities and assistance, in line with the longstanding fraternal and historical ties between the Libyan and Sudanese peoples, according to the spokesperson for the House of Representatives.
During the meeting, Al-Agouri stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between the relevant authorities in both countries to help address humanitarian issues and alleviate the suffering of those affected. He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to supporting all efforts that promote stability and solidarity among brotherly nations.
The Libyan News Agency added that both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on issues of mutual interest in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and further reinforces the longstanding relations between Libya and Sudan.
The meeting came just three days after the authorities in eastern Libya issued a decision ordering the deportation of Sudanese nationals who do not possess valid residency documents, alongside nationals of three other African countries.
