Geneva – Sudanhorizon

Minister Plenipotentiary Mai Ibrahim, Deputy Permanent Representative of Sudan to Geneva, presented the Arab Group’s statement on Wednesday, in her capacity as Chair of the Arab Group in Geneva. The statement was delivered during a high-level panel discussion held at the Human Rights Council to mark International Day of Women in Diplomacy, which focused on women’s rights to representation in decision-making positions.
The statement expressed grave concern regarding the challenges faced by women and girls, particularly in the context of armed conflicts, where they pay a heavy price due to escalating violence and the collapse of protection systems.
The Deputy Permanent Representative affirmed the Arab States’ unwavering commitment to empowering women and enhancing their active participation in public and political life and decision-making processes. She noted the significant progress made by Arab States in promoting women’s presence in leadership positions, legislative bodies, and diplomatic work.
The Arab Group also reiterated the importance of continuing efforts to remove the social and cultural challenges that hinder women’s participation and to expand opportunities for their empowerment. This will strengthen their role in building peace, achieving security, stability, and development, as well as enhancing their presence in the United Nations and multilateral international work.
