CBS Orders Liquidation of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Sudan
Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza
The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBS), Amina Mirghani, issued a decision to liquidate the Sudan branch of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank through voluntary liquidation.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, an Islamic financial services group, announced the expansion of its operations in the region by opening its first branch in Sudan in 2012, making it the first financial institution from the United Arab Emirates to obtain a license to conduct banking operations from the Central Bank of Sudan.
The opening of the new bank was announced during a ceremony attended by former President Omar al-Bashir and the then UAE Ambassador to Sudan, Hassan Ahmed al-Shehhi.
At the opening, Abdullah al-Shehhi, Head of International Expansion at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, said: “The presence of our first branch in Sudan is a major supporter of trade relations between Sudan and the UAE and contributes to the sustainable growth of the Sudanese economy.”
Although the Central Bank of Sudan’s (CBS) decision was issued last March, it was not officially announced this Tuesday.
