Cabinet Discusses Challenges Related to People’s Livelihoods

The Sudanese Cabinet held its regular meeting Thursday afternoon in Khartoum, chaired by Prime Minister Kamil Idris. The meeting reviewed the report and recommendations of the High Committee on Reforming and Unifying Land and Urban Planning Legislation, presented by Minister of Justice Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Darf.
Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Khalid Al-Aisir, stated in a press statement that the Cabinet session addressed a range of issues related to security and people’s livelihoods, particularly those concerning the availability of bread and consumables in the oil sector.
He explained that the Cabinet is studying all possible means to mitigate the negative impacts on people’s livelihoods, emphasizing that the government’s approach prioritizes the well-being of its citizens.
He added that the government is paying special attention to land and urban planning legislation to avoid past mistakes and to build a future for coming generations based on sound principles and foundations.
He noted that the Council listened to interventions from several ministers on this matter and formulated a number of new proposals to address the issue of unifying land and urban planning legislation.
The Minister explained that the Cabinet also discussed a report on the current state of national roads and bridges and the plan for their rehabilitation and development, particularly the Shambat, Al-Mak Nimr, and Al-Halfaya bridges in the capital, Khartoum. This report was presented by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani Haroun.
He indicated that the Cabinet emphasized the need to align the road and bridge rehabilitation and maintenance plan with the Ministry’s five-year strategic plan (2026-2030) and to approve a comprehensive project for the rehabilitation, maintenance, and construction of roads and bridges. This project will be based on a detailed program that specifies priorities, financial costs, funding sources, timeframe, implementing entity, and performance indicators, utilizing all available resources.
He added, “The Cabinet will continue discussing the issue of roads and bridges in accordance with the vision presented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.”
The minister said that the Cabinet also listened to a briefing on combating smuggling and drugs, and preparing for the autumn season, presented by the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Babiker Samra, who reviewed in this regard the preparations of the National Council for Civil Defense to avoid all the negative repercussions of the rainy season.
