Sudan Participates in Brazzaville’s 15th Electoral Group Meetings

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim, participated in the 15th Electoral Group meeting, which includes Sudan, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Gabon. The meeting was held as part of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group, in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. The meeting saw broad participation from finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives of financial and development institutions across the African continent.
During the meeting, the Group’s Executive Director, Dr. Siddiq Mohamed Al-Obeid, presented the annual report on the Group’s work and activities. The report included an assessment of performance over the past period and highlighted key programs and initiatives implemented to support economic and social development efforts in member countries. It also reviewed the challenges facing African economies in light of regional and international economic changes.
The meeting discussed several issues of common interest, including enhancing development financing opportunities, increasing the contributions of member countries to the African Development Bank’s institutions, supporting capacity-building programs, expanding employment opportunities, and ensuring equitable representation for member countries within the Bank’s various structures.
During the meeting, Sudan’s Minister of Finance emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among member states to achieve shared interests. He stressed the need to develop financing mechanisms and facilitate access to the necessary financial resources to support development projects, infrastructure, and essential services in member countries.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of enhancing the role of national governments in managing and implementing development projects. This would ensure more efficient resource utilization and maximize economic and social benefits. He affirmed Sudan’s commitment to supporting joint efforts aimed at promoting economic stability and achieving sustainable development across the African continent.
The meeting also facilitated an exchange of views and experiences among member states on economic policies and financial reforms. National experiences in mobilizing domestic resources, increasing revenues, and improving the investment climate were reviewed, all of which contribute to strengthening African countries’ ability to address economic challenges and achieve sustainable growth.
It is to be noted that Sudan’s participation in the African Development Bank meetings reflects its commitment to strengthening its relationships with regional and international financial institutions and expanding economic and development cooperation. This cooperation supports development and reconstruction priorities and contributes to achieving economic stability in the country.
