IGAD Executive Secretary Warns African Media Against Content Undermining Trust
Nairobi – Sudanhorizon
The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, has called on African media outlets to craft narratives that reflect the continent’s reality and shape its future, emphasizing that the media is a guardian of truth and a powerful force in shaping society.
Speaking at the annual African Media Summit (2026) currently being held in Nairobi, Kenya, Gebeyehu affirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting media sustainability and protecting editorial integrity in all IGAD member states and beyond. He noted that the media’s role is not merely to observe Africa’s transformations, but to be a driving force behind them.
Gebeyehu added that while the media landscape is being reshaped by digital innovation and artificial intelligence, access to information is expanding, but this expansion also threatens the proliferation of content that undermines trust
