Minister of Energy, Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed the ministry’s readiness to rehabilitate and reconstruct oil facilities to secure fuel supply chains and meet the country’s needs.
The minister made the remarks during his inspection visit to the ministry’s strategic storage facilities and the Port Sudan refinery depot, which are undergoing maintenance following damage caused by militia attacks. These attacks resulted in the shutdown of the largest strategic cooking gas storage facility, as well as damage to gasoline and diesel storage facilities.
The minister explained that these large-capacity storage facilities are state-owned and play a pivotal role in building strategic reserves. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to their reconstruction and commended the efforts of those working to repair the infrastructure of the oil facilities and restore them to service.
The minister’s tour also included a visit to the Sudagas company’s storage facilities to assess the progress of work there. He described petroleum companies – including those in the private sector – as essential partners in securing fuel supplies. He announced his welcome of the private sector’s contribution to developing the fuel supply chain system, whether in importing and distribution or in constructing storage facilities, to ensure the stability of the country’s needs and to build a strategic stockpile that contributes to warding off risks and gaps resulting from emergency situations and wars.
