Cabinet: Combating Corruption, Considers Drugs a War Against Sudanese People

The Sudanese Cabinet held a meeting Sunday in Khartoum, headed by Prime Minister Kamil Idris. The cabinet listened to a briefing from the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Ibrahim Mustafa, on the overall performance of the scheme. He explained that 80% of the project’s areas was cultivated last year, and that the project is prepared to cultivate 1.2 million feddans this season.
The Minister of Culture and Information, Khalid Al-Aisir, stated in a press release that the Cabinet also received a briefing from the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development, Mohamed Kertkila Saleh, on rural development, its challenges, and potential opportunities to support the vision of scientists and university professors in this regard.
The Minister of Culture and Information explained that the Cabinet reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and the Intelligence Service in combating corruption, smuggling, and drugs. He noted the extent of the dangers posed by drugs and the need to confront this serious phenomenon in Sudanese society. He stated that the Cabinet emphasized the need for the required media awareness campaigns to counter the dangers of drugs, and the importance of activating regional and international agreements and exchanging information in this field. He added, “The drug phenomenon represents another war being waged against the Sudanese people.”
In a related context, the Minister of Culture and Information referred to the proposals presented by the Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, during the meeting regarding raising the level of executive performance by attracting qualified personnel to the ministries.
Furthermore, the Cabinet, in its meeting, was reassured about the electricity supply situation in the country and how to address the increased demand resulting from the destruction caused by the terrorist rebel militia. They also discussed increasing transmission capacity, expediting the lighting of the remaining main streets in the capital, and utilizing renewable and alternative energy sources.
