IGAD Delegation Arrives in Khartoum to Begin Arrangements for Resuming Operations

A delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), tasked with inspecting the organization’s office in Khartoum, has begun assessments and arrangements to prepare the premises for resuming its operations in Sudan, after arriving in the country earlier this week.

According to information obtained by Sudanhorizon, the delegation visited the office, inspected it, and conducted technical checks with the assistance of the relevant security authorities.

In this context, the Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Al-Sadiq Ilyas, received the visiting IGAD representatives in the presence of the official in charge of the file at the ministry. Discussions focused on arrangements for the resumption of the office’s activities in Sudan.

In a related development, members of the IGAD delegation, along with the national coordinator of the IDRISI program, Rania Hassan, and the financial and administrative officer of the Sudan office, met on Thursday with the State Minister at the Ministry of Finance in Khartoum, Advisor Mohammed Nour Abdeldaim. The meeting discussed arrangements for IGAD’s return and the reopening of its offices in Sudan, as well as the resumption of its activities following the lifting of Sudan’s membership suspension in the organization.

The meeting also addressed potential obstacles that could face the reopening of IGAD offices and the resumption of its activities, with discussions on mechanisms to overcome these challenges.

The minister described Sudan’s return to IGAD membership as an important step toward activating the country’s role in its regional and international environment. He highlighted the importance of benefiting from IGAD’s projects and establishing a strategic partnership to support economic development and reconstruction in the country.

For her part, Rania Hassan, the national coordinator of the IDRISI program in Sudan, described the meeting as productive and successful, noting that it covered many aspects related to the resumption of the organization’s activities in the country. She affirmed that they received full support and a warm welcome from the ministry and expressed hope for the success of all efforts and initiatives serving the country’s interests.

In the same context, Acting Director General of the External Financing Department at the Ministry of Finance, Al-Amin Abu Al-Qasim, confirmed the ministry’s readiness to exert further efforts and coordinate with relevant authorities to reopen the organization’s offices and resume its activities, benefiting from the projects and services it provides in support of national interests.
