Sudan’s Ambassador to the African Union and its envoy to the Ethiopian capital, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, addressed on Friday the informal consultation session of the African Union Peace and Security Council with countries undergoing political transition.

The ambassador conveyed the Sudanese government’s appreciation to the Council and to Egypt, which holds the Council’s presidency for February, for convening a ministerial consultation session with Sudan on the sidelines of the African Summit—addressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem.

He also announced Sudan’s readiness to receive a delegation from the Peace and Security Council in Khartoum at a date to be agreed upon in coordination between the Council and the Sudanese government.

Ambassador Al-Zein reviewed developments in the humanitarian, security, and political situation in Sudan, noting the return of the government and state institutions to the capital, Khartoum. He also highlighted the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the cities of Al-Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan after more than two years of siege and isolation.

The Sudanese envoy further addressed recent violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces militia, including attacks on Mustariha and Al-Tina, as well as strategic and suicide drone attacks in North and South Kordofan states and the Blue Nile region. He called on the Peace and Security Council to designate the militia as a terrorist group.

The ambassador also conveyed Sudan’s condemnation of Uganda for receiving the leader of the Rapid Support Forces militia and the so-called “Tasis” government, and for allowing him to address a public rally in Kampala, despite the Council’s decision not to recognize any parallel entities. He urged member states to adhere to the decisions of the Peace and Security Council.
He further stressed the illegitimacy of the continued suspension of Sudan’s participation in African Union activities, stating that the reasons for suspension no longer apply following the formation of the civilian transitional “Government of Hope.”
