The Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has reiterated that there would be no truce with the Rapid Support Forces militia, nor would there be a role for the UAE in the solution or mediation towards resolution of the conflict in the Sudan.
During his participation on Thursday in the National Day celebrations commemorating the liberation of Omdurman, organized by the residents of Old Omdurman, Burhan affirmed that there would be no truce with the militias while they occupy cities and regions and commit violations against citizens.
He also ruled out any role for the UAE as a mediator, given its support for the rebellion.
He added, “We will not accept any ceasefire unless the militias withdraw from the areas they occupy and are then gathered in designated areas.” He stressed that any truce that does not include such conditions will not be accepted by the Sudanese people.
Burhan added, “We want to build Sudan on genuine peace and on solid ground.” He continued, “We say to the opposition abroad that you are not enemies of the Sudanese people, and anyone who has not harmed or incited against the state and the nation is welcome at any time.”
Burhan saluted the people of Omdurman, both youth and senior citizens , acknowledging their role in all the national epics the country has witnessed.
He said, “from history we draw strength, and with hope we build the future.” He stated that the liberation of Khartoum from the stain of rebellion began in Omdurman, explaining that just as The Mahdist Revolution began in Omdurman, and the liberation of Khartoum from the terrorist Dagalo militia was launched from the Wadi Sayyidna military area in Omdurman.
General Burhan offered his condolences to the families of the martyrs of Old Omdurman who sacrificed their lives for the people of Sudan.
He pledged that the martyrs’ blood would not be shed in vain, noting the swift response of Omdurman’s residents to the call for mobilization and their role in providing support to citizens who remained in the city throughout the war.
He stated that the youth who brought about change in December 2019 are capable of uprooting the militia and restoring security and stability to the Sudanese people.
The Chairman of the Sovereign Council referred to those who exploit the Sudanese people and abuse them, declaring that they have no place among them. He added, “We are with our people; we live and die with them.”
He affirmed that arrangements are underway to complete the transition and form the Legislative Council, explaining that this council will include significant representation for youth, resistance committees, and the forces that stood firm against the rebel militia. He added that youth participation in the peace process and building the future is essential.
