Mineral Resources Director Discusses Developing Mining Activity with South Kordofan Notables

The Director General of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, Mohamed Taher Omar, met at the company’s headquarters in Khartoum with a delegation of notables and leaders from South Kordofan, headed by Lt. Gen. Mohamed Markazo Koko, to discuss ways to develop and enhance mining activity in the state.
The meeting addressed a range of issues related to traditional and organized mining, as well as mechanisms to ensure continuity of operations in line with technical and professional standards that help raise production efficiency and achieve stability in mining areas.
The Director General affirmed the company’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of local host communities for mining activities and to strict adherence to environmental and occupational safety standards. He noted that the coming phase will witness expanded mining activity in South Kordofan, contributing to development momentum and improved services for the state’s population.
Omar praised the existing coordination between local communities, the company’s state office, and operating firms in the sector. He explained that work organization and revenue allocation are conducted according to professional and transparent principles and in line with Minister of Finance Decision No. 90, reaffirming the company’s support for local communities to optimally utilize mining revenues in service and development projects.
For his part, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Markazo Koko affirmed the readiness of the state’s leadership and community to provide full support to the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, enabling it to carry out its supervisory and regulatory role over the mining sector in the state. He welcomed the entry of new companies and investments for their role in supporting state revenues and achieving the desired development renaissance.
