The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Saturday announced it has repelled a new attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the town of Al-Silik, Blue Nile Region, on the border with South Sudan.
On January 26, SAF recaptured Al-Silik and Malakan in the Baw area of Blue Nile from an alliance comprising the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), just one day after they had seized control of the towns, amid speculation that the alliance forces had launched their attack from within South Sudanese territory.
The 4th Infantry Division said in a statement that “the lions of the 4th Infantry Division bravely and skillfully repelled a fierce attack launched by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia on the Al-Silik area in Blue Nile, southeastern Sudan.”
The statement indicated that the forces were able to “thwart the attack and defeat the aggressors, inflicting heavy losses on the militia in terms of lives and equipment.”
The army considered the heroic act performed by the division’s troops a testament to the high level of readiness and strong fighting spirit of the forces. The division emphasized that “this fighting spirit has always been a bulwark against all attempts to undermine the security and stability of the region.”
It added: “Your valiant forces, under the leadership of the 4th Infantry Division, will remain a symbol of resilience and sacrifice, and an unbreakable fortress for the homeland, until security is achieved and the forces of evil and aggression are defeated.”
