Minister of Agriculture Urges Partners to Rehabilitate Shambat’s Food Research Center

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Professor Ismat Qureshi, confirmed that the National Food Research Center in Shambat has suffered huge damage at the hands of the Rapid Support Forces militia, affecting the building, laboratories, and equipment.
Qureshi stated that the militia have completely destroyed the center and that it requires serious efforts for its rehabilitation. He appealed to partners to work together to revive the National Food Research Center.
For her part, the center’s director, Professor Nawal Abdel Qayyum, confirmed that the center suffered comprehensive and systematic destruction, rendering it inoperable.
She noted that the National Food Research Center works in the field of food technology research, training, and technology transfer. Its research encompasses drying and canning, animal products, oil seeds (especially promising oils), grains (particularly blended flour), food quality and nutrition monitoring, biotechnology, and food safety.
She added that the center includes units to support scientific research, such as a processing hall, a peeling and grinding mill, and a fruit and vegetable cold storage facility.
