Burhan Discusses Ceasefire and Security Developments with Visiting UK Military Delegation

The Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held talks in Port Sudan with a high-level British military delegation. The discussions focused on the ceasefire and security developments in the country.
The British military delegation was headed by Rear Admiral Edward Algren, Senior Military Advisor to the UK Ministry of Defence for the Middle East and North Africa. The delegation also included the UK Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Richard Crowder, and the British Military Attaché in Cairo.
The Sovereign Council’s media office reported that the meeting addressed the overall developments in Sudan, efforts to achieve peace, security, and stability, and reviewed the trajectory of bilateral relations between the two countries and prospects for strengthening and developing them to serve mutual interests.
Following the meeting, the UK Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Richard Crowder, affirmed in a press statement the UK government and people’s support for the Sudanese people. He emphasized that his country is committed to utilizing its resources to support Sudan in achieving security and stability, restoring essential services, and advancing development and recovery.
He also expressed his regret for the suffering and tragedy endured by the Sudanese people as a result of the ongoing war.
Crowder added, that they held important discussions with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council regarding the urgent need for a ceasefire.
He pointed out that they have expressed their profound shock at the images emerging from El Fasher, which revealed widespread brutality and mass killings.
He added that they discussed the parties’ commitment to protecting civilians, as outlined in the Jeddah Declaration.
Crowder stressed the need for concerted international efforts, led by the United States and its partners, to end the conflict, provide humanitarian assistance, and put an end to the atrocities witnessed in El Fasher.
He noted that the UK will assume the presidency of the UN Security Council next month and will host a joint conference with Germany in Berlin in April to support Sudan. The British envoy stressed London’s keenness to coordinate closely with partners in the United States, Norway, the United Nations, and the European and African Unions to ensure the achievement of lasting peace and stability in Sudan.
