Sudanese Foreign Ministry Accuses RSF of Brutal Massacre in Sennar State
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of perpetrating a “brutal massacre” that left 85 civilians dead and 153 others injured in a village in Sennar State.
In a press statement viewed by Sudanhorizon, the ministry said: “While so-called Geneva talks continue with the participation of the Janjaweed militia, details of a horrific massacre committed by this terrorist militia have emerged in the village of Jilgani, Sennar State, on the 10th of this month. The massacre claimed the lives of approximately 85 martyrs, with 153 injured, including children from Quranic schools in the region.”
The statement added: “The militia still refuses to allow the families of the victims to bury their dead. This heinous massacre was carried out after the militia randomly and heavily opened fire on the defenceless villagers as punishment for resisting the abduction and sexual assault of several village girls by militia members.”
The ministry highlighted that the village had been under repeated attacks by the militia since last month, with all valuable possessions looted and residents subjected to severe mistreatment.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry called on the international community, particularly those currently meeting in Geneva and discussing peace negotiations with the militia, to condemn this terrorist crime and to take necessary steps to treat the Dagalo militia as a terrorist organisation responsible for crimes against humanity.
The ministry warned that any engagement with the terrorist militia would only encourage further atrocities, genocide, and crimes against humanity.
