UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Visit Sudan on Wednesday

The UN High Commission for Human Rights (UNHCR)on Monday announced that High Commissioner Volker Türk will visit Sudan on Wednesday.

In a statement, the High Commission said, “Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk will visit Sudan from January 14 to 18.”

The statement indicated that the High Commissioner will meet with government officials in Port Sudan, as well as representatives of civil society and the UN team.

It added that Türk will visit the Northern State, including the Al-Afad shelter, and will meet with people displaced by the conflict in Darfur and Kordofan, along with humanitarian partners.

The statement also said that Türk will hold a press conference on January 18 in Port Sudan and another in Nairobi, Kenya.
