Egyptian Foreign Minister: No Equation Between SAF and Any Militias in Sudan
Cairo – Sudanhorizon
Egyptian Foreign Minister and Minister of Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, has affirmed that Egypt categorically rejects any attempts to divide Sudan or undermine its national security, stressing that Sudan’s stability is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
During a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, on Thursday, Abdel-Aty explained that the discussions addressed the evolving situation in Sudan and its serious repercussions on neighboring countries, particularly Egypt, which is directly affected by the ongoing developments in the country.
He indicated that Cairo has stated very clearly its “red lines” regarding the Sudanese issue during the meeting, foremost among them the rejection of dismantling the state or establishing parallel entities, while emphasizing the need for preserving national state institutions, especially the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
The minister stressed that Egypt will not allow the collapse of the Sudanese state or any infringement upon its institutions, affirming that any threat to Sudan’s security is a direct threat to Egyptian national security.
Abdel-Aty also reviewed Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism and in coordination with the United Nations to advance a viable roadmap, beginning with a three-month humanitarian truce to pave the way for a ceasefire, leading to the launch of a comprehensive political process that includes all parties.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized that there is no room for equating the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) with any militias or other formations, while reiterating Egypt’s strong condemnation of the horrific massacres that took place in El Fasher.
