Sudan: 150% Increase in Forestry Fees on Gum Arabic

Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shamam
The National Forestry Corporation has announced a new increase in fees on gum Arabic for the fiscal 2026, amounting to 150% compared to last year’s fees, that is from 6,000 to 15,000 Sudanese pounds per quintal.
In a circular distributed to producers, a copy of which was obtained by Sudanhorizon, the Corporation stated that its board of directors approved the compensatory fees on forestry products and services for 2026.
Ahmed Al-Tayeb Al-Anan, head of the Gum Arabic Exporters Chamber, confirmed that any increase in fees will be reflected in the overall cost of gum Arabic.
In a statement to Sudanhorizon, Al-Anan explained that the US$ exchange rate increased during 2025 from 2,500 to 2,600 pounds, a 44% increase, noting that the Forestry Corporation raised the fees by a larger percentage than the dollar’s rise.
Last year, Al-Anan revealed an increase in government fees on gum Arabic, which amounted to a total of (1,245,688) pounds per ton, indicating that this is equivalent to no less than 17% of the value of the ton.
