Türkiye has stated that the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Somali counterpart, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Tuesday elevated the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries to a new stage.

The Head of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidency, Burhanettin Duran, explained on Tuesday via the Turkish platform En Social that the meeting addressed the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries across political, economic, security, humanitarian, and defence fields.

He added that the two sides reaffirmed during the meeting their shared will to achieve peace, stability, and development in the Horn of Africa, stressing that Türkiye will continue its strong support for Somalia’s territorial unity, sovereignty, and progress.

Duran noted that, in the coming phase, both countries aim to elevate cooperation on the basis of mutual trust and shared interests.

He accompanied his post with excerpts from President Erdoğan’s remarks during the joint press conference with his Somali counterpart.
Earlier on Tuesday, Presidents Erdoğan and Sheikh Mohamud co-chaired an expanded meeting in Istanbul, attended by officials from both countries, following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders at the Presidential Office in Dolmabahçe Palace.
