Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
A workshop titled “Human Trafficking: National Efforts and Roadmap” will be held in Port Sudan next Sunday. It is organized jointly by the National Committee on Human Trafficking at the Ministry of Justice and the African Center for Peace, Governance, and Democratic Transition. The workshop will include committee members, ministry representatives, local and international civil society organizations, and university professors.
Mawlana Huwaida Awad Al-Karim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Chair of the committee stated that the workshop aims to raise awareness of human trafficking crimes and the significant developments in criminal networks’ practices, particularly as this crime crosses borders. She noted the proven coordination and cooperation among networks in neighbouring countries.
The Undersecretary emphasized the importance of this workshop amid reports of human trafficking, organ trade, and other related crimes.
She added, “The workshop also aims to inform victims on how to report these crimes, protect them, and identify the entities that can assist in combating the crime. Additionally, it seeks to engage with partners on the emergency plan prepared by the National Committee for the coming year.”
The committee chair hoped that state agencies would adopt the workshop’s recommendations, stressing the urgent need for cooperation to combat crime and ensure Sudan does not become a hub for such activities.
The Sudanese government previously signed an anti-human trafficking agreement and enacted an anti-human trafficking law in 2014, later amending it to increase penalties.
