Senior Diplomatic Source to Sudanhorizon: No Official Decision Yet on Appointing a U.S. Envoy to Sudan

Washington – Mariam Bashir – Exclusive
A senior diplomatic source has denied reports suggesting that the new Trump administration has officially appointed a special envoy to Sudan to replace Tom Perriello. The source stated to Sudanhorizon news: “Nothing official has been announced yet.”
Media reports claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump had temporarily appointed Peter Lord as a special envoy to Sudan, succeeding Tom Perriello.
In a related context, Deputy Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Malik Agar, remarked that the United States’ foreign relations are fundamentally based on its own interests, stating that the new administration’s interest in Africa is “zero.” Nevertheless, Agar affirmed Sudan’s respect for the new Republican administration.
Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher on Sunday evening, Agar emphasized that the Sudanese government would engage with the Trump administration positively, without holding it accountable for the policies of the previous Biden administration.
