Sudan’s Representative in Geneva Discusses Refugee and Displaced Persons Situation with UN Official
Geneva – Sudanhorizon
On Tuesday, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, met with Raouf Mazou, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees, along with the UN official responsible for Sudan. The ambassador reviewed the humanitarian situation in Sudan, noting the increase in displacement due to retaliatory attacks by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on civilians in villages and rural areas of eastern Al-Gezira State.
The ambassador also informed the officials about the humanitarian developments in other states and the situation of Sudanese refugees in neighbouring countries, emphasizing that the government has provided all necessary facilities and taken measures to expedite aid delivery. However, he noted that the response rate for funding the Sudanese refugee plan remains at only 27% so far.
In response, the Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees provided an update on his recent visit to Sudan and his field assessment of refugee conditions in eastern Chad, affirming the UNHCR’s commitment to intensifying its efforts and working to meet the needs of refugees and displaced persons.
