The Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) stated that the remarks attributed to one of its leaders, Idris Luqma, regarding Prime Minister Kamil Idris, express his personal opinion and do not reflelct the position of the movement or its institutions in any way.
In a statement issued on Sunday, JEM spokesperson Mohamed Zakaria Farajallah affirmed that the movement is “an integral part of the transitional institutions and views the transitional state structures, foremost among them the Council of Ministers, as national institutions bearing significant responsibilities” during this exceptional period in the country’s history, which necessitates that everyone demonstrate a spirit of responsibility and national partnership.
It is worth noting that Idris Luqma wrote on Facebook, commenting on the Prime Minister’s statements announcing the reopening of Khartoum Airport, saying: “Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris gives his opinion on everything; on airports, zakat (Islamic alms), taxes, return, deportation, and so on… This man poses a real danger to the state if he is not dismissed.”
Zakaria reiterated the Justice and Equality Movement’s full respect for the Prime Minister and its appreciation for the efforts being made to manage the country’s affairs during this critical phase. He added that the movement, along with the rest of the government, bears national responsibility in a spirit of solidarity in confronting the political, economic, and security challenges facing Sudan.
