Sudanese Foreign Minister Ambassador Ali Yousif stated that he discussed the situation of Sudanese nationals in Egypt with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr Badr Abdel Ati, on Sunday.
In exclusive remarks to the Sudanhorizon news website, Yousif said, “We discussed the issue of residency permits and the high fees associated with them. We urged the Egyptian Minister to provide more solutions to these problems, and he promised positive developments within the next two days.” He added, “We also discussed all political matters between the two countries within the framework of the political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, which is being held for the first time in nearly seven years due to the exceptional circumstances Sudan has faced.”
Yousif continued, “We also discussed the developments in Sudan, the victories of the army, and the roadmap proposed by the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, for the post-war phase in the country.” He noted that an agreement was reached to form a joint committee for Sudan’s reconstruction, and this committee will determine its scope of work.
Regarding the parallel government that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia intends to establish in areas under its control, Yousif clarified that the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed that Egypt would not recognize this government. He added, “We also discussed the situation in the Red Sea, relations with Horn of Africa countries, the lifting of Sudan’s suspension from the African Union, and its return to IGAD.”
Yousif welcomed Mahmoud Ali Yousif’s election as Chairperson of the African Union Commission. He also addressed Kenya’s hosting of signatories to a political charter by the RSF and its allies, stating that Egypt confirmed Kenya’s inappropriate actions and urged Kenya to reconsider its stance. He pointed out that Kenya’s internal opposition, led by the Supreme Court, has protested these positions.
Yousif remarked, “Although Kenyan President William Ruto assured me that his country would not recognize any parallel government in Sudan, it appears he has come under pressure that has altered his position.” He added that Ruto is facing additional domestic pressures, which could affect his stance and be exploited by Kenyan opposition against him. Yousif emphasized that the RSF has no political or military future in Sudan and that the war will end either with the militia’s defeat or surrender.
The Minister announced Sudan’s welcome of the emergency Arab Summit scheduled for March 4, stating that Al-Burhan will attend the summit and that an advance delegation will arrive in Cairo on Monday. He added that Al-Burhan’s attendance will provide an opportunity to meet with Arab leaders, reaffirming Sudan’s support for the Palestinian people and their national goals, as well as its rejection of their displacement from Gaza or the West Bank to any other location.
Yousif called on the Arab League to convene a council to address the crisis in Sudan, noting that Sudan is a member of the League and that there is a joint Arab defence agreement. He stressed the need to stand by Sudan and show solidarity in the war declared against it. He also revealed that the Sudanese government is considering options for dealing with Kenya, including banning the import of Kenyan products.
Yousif highlighted his recent foreign visits to Russia and Iran, describing them as positive and successful. He stated, “We found complete understanding of the situation in Sudan and strong support for our positions in the war.”
